The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) said that the consumer suffered “uncontrollable vomiting” after consuming a drug marketed as retatrutide, which has not been approved for use outside of a clinical trial setting in Australia.

Despite retatrutide’s unapproved status in the country, Australians can still find products marketed as retatrutide for sale online and through social media—but the TGA has warned consumers that there is no guarantee that these products contain what sellers claim.

Other serious health problems reported in connection with products marketed as retatrutide include extreme jaundice, severe constipation, stomach swelling, and extreme fatigue.

Retatrutide differs from the active ingredient in the well-known Ozempic by targeting three hormone receptors rather than one.
